Ahmedabad Woman Alleges Rape by Rajkot Man After Deceptive Marriage Promise

A distressing case has emerged from Ahmedabad where a 21-year-old woman has accused a 25-year-old man from Rajkot of repeatedly raping her over several months, following what she describes as a deceptive promise of marriage. The incident has led to a formal police complaint being registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), highlighting serious allegations of sexual exploitation through deceitful means.

Details of the Alleged Crime and Police Complaint

The complainant, a resident of Surendranagar who was residing in a paying guest accommodation in Ahmedabad while pursuing an educational course, filed her report with the Navrangpura police station. According to her statement, the accused, known to her family, initiated contact in May 2025 under the guise of discussing studies. However, the conversations quickly escalated as he professed love and proposed a relationship, ultimately promising marriage to gain her trust.

The woman recounted in her complaint: "He began calling me in May. Initially, he would discuss studies, but then he proposed a relationship. He said he loved me and wanted to marry me. After he called repeatedly, I agreed." This alleged manipulation set the stage for subsequent events that unfolded over the following months.

Sequence of Events and Alleged Exploitation

As per the complaint, the situation intensified when the man visited Ahmedabad on the woman's birthday a couple of months later, reiterating his marriage intentions. Following this visit, he started making frequent trips to the city. It was during one such visit that he allegedly took her to a hotel near Ashram Road, where he engaged in non-consensual physical relations with her on three separate occasions.

The complainant further stated: "He took me to a hotel near Ashram Road and had physical relations with me thrice." After completing her course, the woman returned to her hometown, but the communication continued through video calls until she discovered a shocking betrayal.

Discovery of Betrayal and Legal Action

The woman's ordeal took a devastating turn when she learned that the man had become engaged to another woman from his hometown. Upon confronting him, he reportedly admitted to breaking off their engagement, leaving her feeling violated and deceived. Following this revelation, she informed her parents and uncle before approaching the authorities to seek justice.

In her complaint, she detailed: "We continued to talk over video calls till I learnt that he had got engaged to a woman from his hometown. When I confronted him, he said he was breaking off our engagement. I informed my parents and uncle about before approaching the police." The alleged offences are said to have occurred between May 2025 and January 19, 2026, prompting her to demand a thorough investigation.

Legal Framework and Police Response

The Navrangpura police have registered a formal complaint under BNS Section 69, which specifically addresses sexual intercourse by employing deceitful means. This legal provision is crucial in cases where consent is obtained through false promises or fraudulent intentions, underscoring the gravity of the allegations in this instance.

Authorities are now investigating the matter to verify the claims and gather evidence. The case serves as a stark reminder of the vulnerabilities faced by individuals in such situations and the importance of legal recourse in addressing crimes of this nature.
