Ahmedabad SOG Conducts Major Drug Bust, Seizes Contraband Worth Nearly Rs 10 Lakh
In a significant crackdown on narcotics trafficking, the Ahmedabad Rural Special Operations Group (SOG) executed a late-night operation near Bopal, resulting in the arrest of three suspects, one of whom is a minor. The police team successfully seized hybrid ganja with an estimated street value exceeding Rs 9 lakh, alongside other items, bringing the total seizure value to approximately Rs 9.8 lakh.
Operation Based on Specific Intelligence Tip-Off
Acting on precise information received by patrol units, authorities were alerted that three individuals would arrive near a showroom adjacent to the Bopal bridge on a two-wheeler to conduct a drug sale. This intelligence prompted the SOG to meticulously plan a raid, ensuring the presence of independent witnesses and arranging for comprehensive videography to document the proceedings.
Late-Night Raid Leads to Apprehension and Seizure
Around 1:45 AM on Sunday night, the SOG team reached the designated location and discovered a parked scooter in the vicinity. A thorough search of the area led to the detention of the three suspects. Upon interrogation and examination, police recovered a total of 258.8 grams of hybrid ganja from their possession and the vehicle. The confiscated narcotics are valued at Rs 9.05 lakh.
Additional items seized during the operation include:
- Five mobile phones
- Cash amounting to Rs 7,730
- Three weighing scales
- Packaging materials
- The scooter used in the alleged illicit activity
Investigation Uncovers Links to Absconding Supplier
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the apprehended individuals were operating under the directives of another person, who is currently absconding. This individual is suspected to be the supplier of the drugs. Police officials confirmed that the seized substance tested positive for narcotics during an on-site examination, and samples will be forwarded for detailed forensic analysis to strengthen the case.
Legal Action and Ongoing Efforts
A First Information Report (FIR) has been registered under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Bopal police station. Law enforcement agencies are actively pursuing leads to trace and apprehend the absconding accused, aiming to dismantle the broader drug network involved in this incident.
This operation underscores the continued vigilance and proactive measures by Ahmedabad police in combating drug-related crimes, ensuring community safety and adherence to legal frameworks.
