A tragic hit-and-run incident in the heart of Ahmedabad claimed the life of a 45-year-old man and left another rider injured on Thursday night. The accident, caused by a speeding SUV, occurred near the busy Gujarat College Crossroads, sending shockwaves through the local community.

Details of the Fatal Collision

The victim has been identified as Chandrakant Panchal, a furniture worker. The incident took place around 7:30 PM on Thursday when Panchal was riding his motorcycle from Paldi towards Chanakyapuri. Another scooterist, Archana Oza, was following him on a separate two-wheeler.

As Chandrakant Panchal took a turn towards Gujarat College, a high-speed SUV rammed into his motorcycle. The impact was so severe that the bike was dragged for several metres, as captured in chilling CCTV footage from the area. The SUV driver fled the spot immediately after the collision, leaving the victims on the road.

Victim's Condition and Police Action

Chandrakant Panchal sustained catastrophic injuries in the crash. He suffered severe wounds to his abdomen, chest, right arm, and leg, along with multiple rib fractures. He was rushed to SVP Hospital's emergency ward via ambulance. Despite medical efforts, doctors declared him dead at 7:23 AM on Friday.

His son, Rushi Panchal, lodged a formal complaint with the M Division traffic police. In the FIR, Rushi stated he learned about the accident through a phone call from an unknown person. The caller informed him that his injured father had provided Rushi's contact number before being taken to the hospital. Rushi later gathered more details by speaking to witnesses and relatives of the other involved biker.

Investigation and Legal Proceedings

The Ahmedabad traffic police have registered a case under sections for causing death by negligence and hit-and-run. Officials are actively analyzing CCTV footage from nearby junctions to trace the offending vehicle and identify the driver responsible for this reckless act.

This incident highlights the persistent danger of speeding and hit-and-run cases on Ahmedabad's roads. It underscores the urgent need for stricter enforcement and heightened public awareness about road safety to prevent such senseless loss of life.
