Ahmedabad Woman Files Police Complaint Against Husband and In-Laws for Prolonged Harassment
A 42-year-old woman from the Naranpura area of Ahmedabad has officially lodged a police complaint, accusing her husband and in-laws of subjecting her to extensive mental and physical harassment throughout her marriage. The complaint, filed recently, details a pattern of abuse that began shortly after her wedding in 2008 and persisted over the years.
Allegations of Seizure and Misrepresentation
According to the complainant, troubles started almost immediately after the marriage when her husband reportedly seized her personal belongings and handed them over to his parents. She also alleged that her in-laws misrepresented her husband's employment status prior to the marriage, leading to significant disputes when she confronted them about the deception.
Persistent Taunts and Dowry Demands
The woman claimed she faced persistent taunts, verbal abuse, and repeated demands for additional dowry from her husband and in-laws. She described a situation of emotional neglect, with her husband distancing himself and refusing to provide any financial support, leaving her in a vulnerable position.
Forced Employment and Financial Exploitation
Allegedly pressured into employment, the complainant stated that her earnings were confiscated by her husband and in-laws, while she continued to shoulder all household duties alone. This financial exploitation compounded her distress, as she was denied control over her own income despite contributing to the household.
Insults and Neglect During Pregnancy
The complaint further detailed that her in-laws repeatedly insulted her family background and humiliated her on multiple occasions. Additionally, she accused them of denying her adequate care during her pregnancy and after childbirth, exacerbating her physical and emotional suffering.
Failed Reconciliation and Police Action
Despite multiple attempts at reconciliation, including legal mediation, the matter remained unresolved. This lack of resolution ultimately prompted her to approach the police. Officials have registered the complaint, and an investigation is currently underway to examine the allegations thoroughly.
Note: This case highlights ongoing issues of domestic harassment and dowry-related abuse in some households, underscoring the importance of legal recourse for victims.
