Ajmer Rent Dispute Escalates into Shooting, Teen Student Injured
A routine rent disagreement in Ajmer's Kundan Nagar area took a dangerous turn on Wednesday evening when a tenant allegedly resorted to gunfire, resulting in a 16-year-old student being shot and injured. The incident, which unfolded in the Phus Ki Kothi locality, has sent shockwaves through the community and prompted a swift police response.
Violent Clash Captured on CCTV
According to police reports, the firing occurred following a physical altercation between the tenant, identified as Gulrez Chishti, and individuals from the house owner's side. Station in-charge Shambhu Singh stated that authorities received urgent information about a student being shot and immediately rushed to the scene. The entire confrontation was recorded on CCTV footage, which vividly shows both parties engaged in a fight before Chishti is seen brandishing and firing a country-made pistol.
The footage reveals a chaotic scene: as shots rang out, bystanders scrambled for cover, but the accused allegedly continued shooting. A bullet struck the hand of the 16-year-old boy from the neighborhood, who was subsequently taken to a hospital for primary medical treatment. Police confirmed that Chishti was carrying the illegal firearm and was taken into custody shortly after the incident.
Conflicting Accounts from Both Sides
Preliminary investigations indicate that the root cause was a rent dispute between Chishti and the house owner. However, the accounts from both parties present starkly different narratives of the events leading to the violence.
House owner Aaisha provided a detailed statement to police, alleging that the tenant was burning amulets on the property and became abusive when confronted. She claimed that when her son objected, Chishti initiated a physical fight, emerging from his room armed with an iron rod. "During the fight, the accused pulled out a gun," Aaisha stated. "The accused tenant wanted to shoot me, but the bullet hit a child from the area who was trying to intervene."
In contrast, Gulrez Chishti offered a different version in his police statement. He asserted that he had been living at the property for five months and faced daily harassment from the house owner's wife, about which he had previously complained. "Today, the woman, along with several people, attacked me, due to which I sustained an injury on my ear," Chishti explained, suggesting his actions were in self-defense.
Aftermath and Police Investigation
Following the shooting, witnesses at the scene reportedly gathered and assaulted Chishti before police arrived to take control of the situation.
