AMGM Seeks Action Against Negative Portrayal of Lohagad Fort

The Ahmednagar Mountaineering and Adventure Group (AMGM) has demanded action against the negative portrayal of the historic Lohagad Fort in Maharashtra. According to AMGM, turning the site of a tragic criminal incident into a point of public attraction is deeply unfortunate and sets a dangerous precedent for other heritage monuments across the country.

Concerns Over Heritage Monument Exploitation

AMGM officials expressed concern that the fort's reputation is being exploited for sensationalism, which could harm its cultural significance. The group urged the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and local authorities to take strict measures to prevent misuse of the site.

Lohagad Fort, a popular trekking destination near Lonavala, has been in the news following a criminal incident. The AMGM statement emphasized that such portrayals could lead to a loss of respect for historical sites and deter tourists from visiting.

Call for Preservation and Dignity

The mountaineering body called for preserving the dignity of heritage monuments and ensuring they are not reduced to backdrops for negative events. They urged the government to implement guidelines to protect the sanctity of such sites.

AMGM's plea comes amid growing concerns over the commercialization and trivialization of historical landmarks. The group has requested a meeting with state tourism officials to discuss preventive measures.
