Amritsar Police Encounter Ends in Death of Wanted Murder Suspect

In a dramatic police operation on Monday, authorities in Amritsar shot dead Raja Singh, alias Billa, one of the primary suspects in a recent murder case that had shaken the local community.

The Background: November 16 Grocery Store Murder

The encounter stems from the brutal November 16 murder of grocery store owner Manjit Singh in Dhulka village. According to police records, two unidentified shooters had entered his shop and gunned him down in cold blood. Raja Singh had been a wanted man in connection with this homicide case ever since the incident occurred.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Suhail Qasim Mir of Amritsar Rural identified the deceased suspect as Raja Singh, a resident of Cheema Kalan in Tarn Taran district. The police had been conducting an intensive manhunt for the accused following the shocking daytime murder.

The Fatal Encounter Unfolds

The confrontation occurred after police received specific intelligence indicating that Raja Singh was moving through the area and allegedly planning another criminal act. Acting swiftly on this tip-off, law enforcement personnel established strategic checkpoints throughout the region.

When Raja Singh noticed the police presence, he attempted to escape on his motorcycle but lost control of the vehicle. Rather than surrendering, the accused opened fire on the police party, resulting in injuries to Assistant Sub-Inspector Shankar Singh, who was struck in the arm during the exchange.

SSP Mir stated that police returned fire in self-defense, injuring the accused. Raja Singh was immediately transported to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead upon arrival. Fortunately, the condition of the injured ASI is reported to be stable and out of danger.

Legal Proceedings and Investigation

Following standard procedure in such cases, the police have registered a separate case regarding the firing incident and the attack on the police party. This ensures proper legal documentation of the entire encounter and maintains transparency in the investigation process.

The neutralization of Raja Singh represents a significant breakthrough in the November 16 murder investigation, though police continue to pursue the second unidentified shooter involved in the original grocery store killing. The community of Dhulka village, which had been living in fear since the murder, can now breathe somewhat easier with one of the prime suspects no longer at large.

Police authorities have assured the public that they remain vigilant and committed to maintaining law and order in the Amritsar Rural region, with ongoing operations targeting criminal elements that threaten community safety.
