An Amroha court has sentenced three men to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹64,000 each for the murder of a truck driver from Haryana in 2020. Two other individuals were awarded three years in jail for purchasing stolen items from the convicts.
Case Details
Additional District Government Counsel (ADGC) Ravindra Garg stated that the incident occurred on July 31, 2020, when Sanjay Singh, a 40-year-old truck driver from Rohtak, Haryana, went missing while transporting goods to Hardoi. His truck was later found abandoned near a factory in Gajraula town, Amroha district.
Investigation and Arrests
Police analyzed call detail records and arrested Suraj Rawat, Ajay Gupta, and Pradeep Rawat, all residents of Gajraula, on August 9, 2020. During interrogation, the accused confessed to the murder. Sanjay’s body was recovered from a pond. Investigators noted that his hands and legs were tied, his eyes were blindfolded, and a cloth strip was tied around his neck. The autopsy confirmed death due to strangulation.
Stolen Property
The accused had stolen Sanjay’s mobile phone, cash, truck wheels, and other belongings, which were later sold to Rizwan and Sabir. A case was registered under IPC sections 302 (murder), 201 (destruction of evidence), 120B (criminal conspiracy), 404 (dishonest misappropriation of property), and 411 (dishonestly receiving stolen property).
Verdict
After examining evidence and witness testimonies, Additional District and Sessions Judge Naseema Khanam pronounced all five accused guilty on Wednesday. The three main convicts received life imprisonment with a fine of ₹64,000 each, while the two receivers of stolen property were sentenced to three years in jail.
