The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the theft of donations meant for the Ram Temple in Ayodhya has unearthed a massive property trail worth over Rs 30 crore linked to the primary accused, Anukalp Mishra, and his brother-in-law. The revelations have sent shockwaves through the state as investigators piece together a network of illicit financial transactions and property acquisitions.
Property Details and Locations
According to sources close to the investigation, the properties include multiple residential plots, commercial complexes, and agricultural land spread across Uttar Pradesh and neighboring states. The SIT has identified at least 15 properties registered in the names of Anukalp Mishra, his brother-in-law, and shell companies linked to them. Among these are a luxury apartment in Noida valued at Rs 5 crore, a farmhouse near Lucknow worth Rs 3 crore, and several plots in Ayodhya and Varanasi.
Financial Trail and Shell Companies
Investigators have traced the flow of funds through a complex web of bank accounts and shell companies. The SIT has frozen 12 bank accounts and is examining transactions worth over Rs 20 crore that were routed through these accounts. "The accused had set up a sophisticated system to launder money," a senior SIT officer said. "We have found evidence of multiple shell companies being used to purchase properties and park funds."
Role of Brother-in-Law
The brother-in-law, identified as Ravi Shankar, is believed to have played a key role in the property acquisitions. He has been questioned multiple times by the SIT and is currently in custody. "Ravi Shankar was the front man for many of these transactions," the officer added. "He used his network to facilitate the purchases without raising suspicion."
Impact on Ram Temple Fund
The theft has raised serious concerns about the management of donations meant for the Ram Temple construction. The temple trust has distanced itself from the accused, stating that strict action will be taken against anyone found guilty. "We are cooperating fully with the investigation," a trust spokesperson said. "The funds donated by devotees are sacred, and we will ensure they are used only for the temple."
Legal Proceedings Next Steps
The SIT is expected to file a detailed chargesheet within the next month, naming all accused and detailing the property trail. Additional arrests are likely as the investigation widens. The court has extended the remand of Anukalp Mishra and his brother-in-law until July 15 for further interrogation.
