Army Jawan Arrested for Brutal Murder of Maid in Hisar Cantonment
The Hisar police have made a significant arrest in a chilling murder case, apprehending an Army personnel from the Hisar Cantonment. The accused, identified as Baleshwar Kunjoor, is charged with the murder of a 37-year-old woman named Santosh, who worked as a housemaid in the staff quarters within the cantonment area.
Discovery of the Body and Investigation Details
Santosh, a resident of Chaudhry Colony located opposite the cantonment, went missing on March 11 after reporting for work. Her husband filed a missing person report the following day, prompting a joint search operation by the Army police and local authorities. The breakthrough came when a torn T-shirt provided a crucial clue, leading investigators to Kunjoor.
During interrogation, the accused reportedly confessed to the crime and revealed the location where he had buried the body. On Monday, Santosh's remains were recovered from an abandoned spot in the forest area of the cantonment. The police noted that the victim's hands were tied, and she had been buried in a shallow trench near a park behind the accused's quarters.
Injury Marks and Suspicion of Sexual Assault
Preliminary examinations of the body revealed multiple injury marks, with sources indicating that the victim's head and face were brutally smashed. Family members have expressed strong suspicions of rape in this case, though confirmation awaits the official post-mortem report, which is currently underway. The police have added murder charges to the initial missing person case based on the evidence uncovered.
Legal Proceedings and Background of the Accused
Baleshwar Kunjoor, hailing from Surguja district in Chhattisgarh, was produced before a Hisar court, which granted the police two days of remand. During this period, authorities plan to recreate the crime scene with the accused to gather further details and solidify the case. The Army police have handed over Kunjoor to the local police for continued legal proceedings.
Santosh had been working in the cantonment area for four to five years and held permission to enter using an ID card. Married for about seven years, she leaves behind two children. The case has sent shockwaves through the local community, highlighting concerns over safety and security within cantonment premises.
As the investigation progresses, the police are focusing on forensic evidence and witness statements to build a robust case. The post-mortem report is expected to provide critical insights into the cause of death and any potential sexual assault, which will be pivotal for the prosecution.
