Pune: A 49-year-old Subedar posted at INS Shivaji in Lonavla tragically lost his life after falling into a 400-foot-deep valley at Lion's Point, approximately 70 kilometers from Pune, on Thursday afternoon.
Incident Details
According to Inspector Dinesh Tayade of the Lonavla Rural police, the victim, Rakesh Kumar Mishra, originally from Mangolpuri in New Delhi, had visited Lion's Point with a colleague on Thursday. Mishra had planned a trip with his son and a friend to Lonavla on May 30 and wanted to explore the area beforehand.
Around 1 pm, while making a video call to a relative and showing her the valley, Mishra slipped and plunged into the deep gorge. His colleague immediately alerted superiors, prompting police and rescue teams to rush to the scene.
Rescue Operation
Members of rescue teams Shivdurga Mitra, Lonavla, and Wanyajeev Rakshak, Maval, worked diligently to retrieve the body from the valley. Nilesh Garade of Wanyajeev Rakshak stated that the operation took three hours, and the victim's cellphone was also recovered.
The body was sent for post-mortem examination, and a case of accidental death has been registered.
