A 55-year-old police officer in Bihar's West Champaran district died after suffering a sudden heart attack while performing his official duties late on Wednesday night. The tragic incident has cast a pall of grief over the local police department.
Sudden Collapse During Night Duty
Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Ajay Kumar Pandey, who was posted at the Semra police station, was actively engaged in his Dial 112 emergency response duty when he complained of severe chest pain. The officer, a resident of Purnia, was immediately rushed by his concerned colleagues to the nearest medical facility for urgent care.
He was taken to the Bagaha sub-divisional hospital. Despite the swift efforts to save him, the attending doctors pronounced him 'brought dead' upon arrival. Medical professionals indicated that he had passed away before reaching the hospital premises.
Police Department Mourns a Dedicated Officer
Senior police officials, including Bagaha Superintendent of Police Sushant Kumar Saroj, Sub-Divisional Police Officers Kumar Devendra and Ragini Kumari, rushed to the hospital after being informed of the incident. They expressed profound sorrow over the untimely demise of their colleague.
In their condolences, the officers described ASI Pandey as a sincere, disciplined, and amiable member of the force. His sudden passing has created a void within the police community in West Champaran. The SP confirmed that Pandey's family had been notified of the tragic news. The officer's body was slated to be handed over to his relatives following the mandatory post-mortem examination.
Medical Assessment Points to Cardiac Arrest
Dr. Sanjay Kumar Gupta, a physician at the Bagaha sub-divisional hospital, provided the preliminary medical assessment. He stated that based on initial observations, the cause of death appeared to be a massive heart attack. The doctor confirmed that the ASI was deceased by the time he was brought to the hospital, leaving no opportunity for life-saving intervention.
This incident highlights the immense physical and mental stress often faced by police personnel, especially those on critical emergency response duties like the Dial 112 service. The state police force has lost a committed officer in the line of duty, underscoring the risks associated with public service.
