Major Drug and Arms Haul in Assam's Cachar District Following Joint Security Operation
In a significant crackdown on illicit activities, a substantial cache of narcotics, firearms, and cash was seized from a remote forest village in Assam's Cachar district. The operation was conducted jointly by Cachar Police and Assam Rifles, as confirmed by official sources.
Strategic Raid in Border Village Leads to Massive Recovery
Acting on specific intelligence inputs, the joint security team executed a search operation at a residence in Jurkhal forest village on Sunday. This village, situated under the jurisdiction of Kachudaram Police Station, holds strategic importance due to its proximity to the borders of Manipur and Mizoram.
During the meticulous search, personnel recovered a large quantity of narcotics, including 10,000 Yaba tablets weighing approximately 2.1 kilograms. Additionally, two soap cases containing 23 grams of suspected heroin were confiscated, underscoring the scale of drug trafficking in the region.
Weapons and Cash Seized in Coordinated Effort
The operation also yielded a significant arsenal and financial assets. Security forces seized a factory-made .32 pistol and an airgun fitted with a telescope, indicating potential links to armed criminal networks. Furthermore, a substantial amount of Rs 14.9 lakh in cash was recovered, along with a mobile phone from the premises.
Apprehension and Ongoing Investigation
A female resident of Jurkhal village has been apprehended in connection with the seizure. Police suspect her involvement in drug peddling activities, although her identity remains undisclosed at this time. Officials stated that the accused is currently undergoing interrogation, with efforts underway to identify and apprehend other individuals linked to this illicit network.
"Further investigation is in progress," a police officer emphasized, highlighting the commitment to dismantling the operation completely.
Concerns Over Cross-Border Trafficking Routes
This recovery brings to light serious concerns regarding cross-border drug trafficking routes that exploit remote, forested areas in southern Assam. The strategic location of Jurkhal village near state borders suggests it may serve as a key transit point for smuggling activities, posing challenges for law enforcement agencies.
The joint operation by Cachar Police and Assam Rifles demonstrates a proactive approach to combating such threats, aiming to disrupt networks that fuel narcotics and arms trade in the region. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely to prevent future incidents and ensure community safety.
