Assam Student Brutally Assaulted in MP University Hostel Room
Hiros Jyoti Das, a master's student from Assam, still struggles to comprehend the vicious attack he endured. The assault occurred in his hostel room at Indira Gandhi National Tribal University in Amarkantak, Madhya Pradesh, on January 13. "I do not know why they did this to me. I don't even know them," Das told TOI, his voice reflecting the trauma of the incident.
Violent Early Morning Attack Leaves Student Injured
According to the FIR filed at Amarkantak police station, five students brutally beat Das around 4 am at the GGBH hostel. The accused students are Anurag Pandey, Jatin Singh, Rajneesh Tiwari, Vishal Yadav, and Utkarsh Singh. The complaint details how two assailants held Das's hands while others repeatedly punched and kicked him.
The violent assault resulted in a fractured nose and injuries near his eyes and lips. Das revealed the attackers also used abusive language targeting his mother and sister. They threatened him with death during the horrifying episode.
University Takes Swift Action Following Protests
The assault triggered immediate protests from fellow students demanding justice. University authorities responded by reviewing CCTV footage from the hostel premises. Following verification of the evidence, the institution expelled all five accused students.
"The university administration has taken action at its own level against the accused students," confirmed Chief Minister Mohan Yadav. He emphasized that police have registered an FIR and are pursuing legal action against the perpetrators.
Police Investigation Underway Amid Political Attention
Additional SP Anuppur, Jagannath Markam, stated authorities have filed a case and launched a detailed investigation. "Things will be clear once the investigation is over," Markam assured, though the accused remain at large without arrest.
The incident has drawn significant political attention across party lines. MP Congress president Jitu Patwari described the assault as "extremely unfortunate" and called for strict action. The ABVP student organization submitted a formal memorandum to the Superintendent of Police demanding stringent punishment for the accused.
Student's Life Disrupted by Unprovoked Violence
Hiros Jyoti Das has lived in Amarkantak for four years, first completing his undergraduate studies before pursuing a master's degree in Economics. He expressed complete bewilderment about the attack's motivation. "The attackers were identified by the university, but I didn't even know their names," Das explained.
He recounted how the assailants asked about his origins and personal details before launching their violent assault. "I have never faced such a situation before. Even now, I am not able to understand why they did it," the traumatized student admitted, highlighting the random nature of the attack that has disrupted his academic life.
