Ayodhya Ram Temple Fund Theft: SIT Submits Preliminary Report

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the alleged fund theft at the Ayodhya Ram temple has submitted its preliminary report to the state government, officials confirmed on Tuesday.

SIT Report Details

According to sources, the report outlines initial findings but does not reach a final conclusion. Officials said that the investigation remains in progress and that the SIT is continuing to collect information and verify facts related to the allegations. The SIT was constituted earlier this month after complaints surfaced regarding misappropriation of funds collected for the temple construction.

The temple trust, Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra, had earlier denied any wrongdoing, stating that all financial transactions are transparent and audited. However, the state government ordered a probe following a petition by local activists.

What the Allegations Entail

The controversy erupted when a whistleblower alleged that a significant portion of donations received from devotees was diverted to private accounts. The total amount involved is estimated to be around ₹2.5 crore, according to the initial complaint. The SIT has so far examined bank records and interviewed several trust officials.

“We are going through every transaction meticulously. No one will be spared if found guilty,” said a senior SIT officer, speaking on condition of anonymity. The team has also sought details from multiple banks and financial institutions.

Impact on Temple Construction

The Ram temple construction, which began in August 2020, is progressing on schedule despite the controversy. The trust has assured that the project cost of around ₹1,100 crore is fully funded and that the alleged theft does not affect the construction timeline. The temple is expected to be completed by January 2027.

Political reactions have been mixed, with opposition parties demanding a thorough investigation and the ruling party accusing them of politicizing the issue. The state government has reiterated its commitment to a fair probe.
