Bandi Sanjay Kumar's Son Seeks Anticipatory Bail in Pocso Case

HYDERABAD: Union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay Kumar's son, Bandi Sai Bageerath, has approached the Telangana High Court seeking interim anticipatory bail in a case registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act. The case pertains to allegations of misbehavior and sexual harassment of a 17-year-old girl. The matter is expected to be heard soon by the vacation bench.

In his petition, Bageerath, aged 23, contended that the alleged survivor was not a minor at the time of the incidents. He argued that the accusations are false and motivated by personal disputes between his family and the survivor's family. Bageerath claimed that the relationship between him and the girl was consensual and continued for a considerable period without any complaint being raised.

He further stated that even after the girl's family became aware of the relationship in January 2026, no police complaint was lodged immediately. The case was filed only in May 2026, allegedly after disputes arose between the parties. Bageerath also alleged that he had previously lodged complaints against the girl's family over extortion demands and threats of false implication. He claimed that the current First Information Report (FIR) is a retaliatory measure and sought protection from arrest.

The Telangana High Court is yet to schedule the hearing. The case highlights the legal complexities surrounding Pocso cases, particularly when consent and age of the survivor are contested.
