BDPO seeks action against illegal mining in Yamunanagar

The Block Development and Panchayat Officer (BDPO) of Chhachhrauli has formally requested the District Mining Officer of Yamunanagar to initiate legal proceedings against an individual accused of carrying out illegal mining on gram panchayat land. The incident reportedly occurred in Taheri village under the Ibrahimpur gram panchayat.

Official Complaint and Panchayat Resolution

According to an official letter dated July 7, 2026, sent by BDPO Kartik Chauhan to the District Mining Officer, the Ibrahimpur gram panchayat passed a resolution on July 2, 2026. The resolution alleged that illegal mining was conducted on panchayat (shamlat) land in Taheri village during the night of July 1, 2026. The accused, identified as Imran, a resident of Jaitpur village in Yamunanagar district, is believed to have carried out the operation.

Request for Inquiry and Legal Action

The BDPO has urged the District Mining Officer to conduct a thorough inquiry into the matter and to initiate legal proceedings as per the provisions of the law. Additionally, the officer has requested a copy of the action taken report to facilitate further departmental proceedings. The Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) of Panchayati Raj, Chhachhrauli, has also been directed to assess the financial loss incurred by the gram panchayat due to the alleged illegal mining and to submit a valuation report.

“Based on the assessment, the panchayat has been directed to take appropriate action against the accused in accordance with the rules,” said Kartik Chauhan, BDPO, Chhachhrauli.

Impact and Next Steps

The illegal extraction of minerals from common land not only deprives the panchayat of revenue but also causes environmental damage. The valuation report will quantify the loss, enabling the panchayat to seek compensation or file a criminal case. The mining department’s inquiry will determine whether mining laws were violated and if the accused can be prosecuted under the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957.
