Belagavi Police Arrest Five in Gold Thefts Worth Rs 67.9 Lakh

Belagavi: The Mal Maruti police have arrested five accused involved in a series of gold jewellery thefts and seized gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 67.9 lakh, police commissioner Bhushan Borase stated on Friday.

Of the five, three directly committed the thefts, while two others allegedly stored the stolen jewellery. With these arrests, police cracked 11 house burglary cases registered under Mal Maruti, APMC and Market police station limits.

Details of the Arrests

Speaking to mediapersons at Mal Maruti police station on Friday, police commissioner Bhushan Borase said the assailants were identified as Rihan Mainuddin Dafedar, 18, Malik Khalil Hubballi, 26, and Armaan Akbar Shaikh, 18. Along with these, two persons, Khalil Ismail Hubballi, 57, and Shanawaj Sirajuddin Pathan, 23, who kept the stolen gold and silver ornaments, were arrested.

Jewellery worth Rs 67.9 lakh, including 415.9 grams of gold jewellery worth Rs 64.4 lakh and 1,329.7 grams of silver jewellery worth Rs 3.4 lakh, was seized from the arrested.

Police Operation

Under the leadership of CPI BR Gaddekar of Mal Maruti station, police personnel Honnappa Talwar, Shrishail Hulageri, Uday Patil, PM Mohite and staff participated in the operation. Commissioner Borase said the work of these police officers in cracking 11 cases was commendable.

Lockhouse Beat System

A lockhouse beat system is in place in Belagavi to prevent homes from being robbed. If houses are locked, the police should be informed in advance. This will help the beat police keep an eye on or monitor the locked houses. 220 people in Belagavi have already benefited from this system. Commissioner Borase said the cases of house thefts have reduced in Belagavi.
