Belagavi Police Enforces New Traffic Rules for Safety

Belagavi Police Unveils Comprehensive Traffic Management Plan

In a significant move to address growing traffic concerns and enhance road safety, particularly for educational institutions, the Belagavi City police have rolled out a series of fresh traffic orders. These measures aim to streamline vehicle movement, reduce bottlenecks, and create a safer environment for pedestrians and motorists alike.

Heavy Vehicle Restrictions and Enforcement

According to an official release issued by City Police Commissioner Bhushan Borase, heavy vehicles will face strict time-based restrictions within city limits. These vehicles will be prohibited from entering the city between 7:00 AM and 11:00 AM and again from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM. This decision targets peak traffic hours when congestion is most severe.

Police authorities have emphasized that enforcement action will be taken against violators under Section 177 of the Motor Vehicles Act. Historical data reveals the seriousness of traffic violations in Belagavi, with the city recording 1,001 no-entry violation cases in 2025 alone, resulting in fines totaling Rs 4,17,050.

Designated Pick-Up and Drop Points for Private Buses

To combat congestion caused by private buses stopping at busy junctions, the police have established specific pick-up and drop locations. Effective from January 27, all private buses arriving from outside the city must adhere to these designated points:

  • Bharatesh School (pay parking facility)
  • The space behind Ashoka Nagar (pay parking facility)
  • Ashoka Nagar Road from Dharmanath Circle

This initiative specifically targets problematic areas such as RTO Circle, Triveni Hotel, Ramdev Hotel, and Dharmaveer Sambhaji Maharaj Circle, where unauthorized halting has previously contributed to traffic snarls.

Stringent No-Parking Regulations

The police have implemented rigorous no-parking rules to eliminate bottlenecks on high-traffic corridors. Key measures include:

  1. Complete parking ban on both sides of the road from Triveni Hotel to Central Bus Stand (CBS) Circle
  2. Parking prohibition on both sides from Kirti Hotel Cross to Sangolli Rayanna Circle
  3. Introduction of an alternate-day parking system on the stretch from Krishnadevaraya Circle to the city corporation office cross

The alternate-day system requires parking on one side of the road on odd-numbered days and the opposite side on even-numbered days, with clear markings and on-site instructions to guide motorists.

Enforcement and Public Cooperation

Violations of these new regulations will invite action under Section 190(2) of the Motor Vehicles Act. Police officials have announced that special enforcement drives will be conducted, particularly during peak hours, to ensure compliance.

The police have also made a strong appeal to citizens for cooperation, urging them to:

  • Avoid illegal and double parking
  • Respect pedestrian crossings
  • Refrain from encroaching on footpaths
  • Utilize designated parking spaces

Specific advice has been given to parents and office-goers to avoid stopping vehicles in the middle of roads, while all motorists are encouraged to drive patiently and responsibly. These collective efforts are expected to contribute to smoother traffic movement across Belagavi, making daily commutes safer and more efficient for everyone.
