Bengaluru Traffic Police Crack Down on High-Beam Light Violations
The Bengaluru traffic police have taken strong action against drivers using unauthorized high-beam vehicle lights. In just six days, they booked a staggering 10,179 cases. This special enforcement drive aimed to reduce road accidents caused by the blinding glare of these lights.
Massive Fines Collected During Dazzling Light Drive
Police conducted the operation titled Dazzling Light from January 7 to January 12. They collected fines totaling Rs 50.89 lakh during this period. The drive focused on nighttime enforcement to catch violators when high-beam lights pose the greatest danger.
Targeted Night Enforcement Yields High Numbers
On January 10 alone, traffic police booked 1,843 cases across the city in a targeted night operation. The west division recorded the highest number of violations that night with 1,025 cases. This division accounted for 5,391 cases over the entire six-day drive.
Other divisions also reported significant numbers. The south division booked 331 cases on January 10 and 1,858 cases total since January 7. The east division recorded 329 cases during the night drive and 1,731 cases overall. The north division registered 158 cases on January 10 and 1,199 cases in total.
Police Deploy Multiple Teams Across City
Traffic police officials deployed more than 15 teams at strategic locations throughout Bengaluru. These teams worked particularly during night hours when high-beam violations are most common. Most violators received spot fines and instructions to immediately remove the additional or high-intensity lights.
Officials warned that repeat offenders would face enhanced penalties under compounding offences. They emphasized that the drive served both enforcement and awareness purposes.
Safety Concerns Drive Enforcement Action
A senior traffic police officer explained the rationale behind the crackdown. "Use of high-beam lights within city limits can temporarily blind oncoming motorists and other road users," the officer said. "This significantly increases the risk of accidents."
The police stated that the drive aimed to educate motorists about responsible driving practices. They wanted to highlight the specific dangers posed by dazzling headlights in urban environments.
This enforcement action comes as Bengaluru continues to grapple with traffic management challenges. The city's notorious traffic conditions make proper lighting practices especially important for road safety.
