Daylight Robbery Strikes Bengaluru Jewellery Shop in Minutes
In a bold and rapid theft executed in broad daylight, a jewellery shop in Bengaluru's Banashankari area was targeted, resulting in the loss of gold and silver ornaments along with cash. The incident occurred on April 13 when the shop owner, N Manjunath, 52, a resident of Mookambikanagar, briefly left his establishment to use a nearby toilet.
Swift Theft During Owner's Brief Absence
According to the complaint filed by Manjunath, the theft at his shop, Siddhartha Silver Ornaments, unfolded within a mere three-minute window. He stepped out at 3:22 PM and returned at 3:25 PM, only to be met with a shocking scene. An unknown individual had entered the open shop and was in the process of stealing valuables from the showcase.
As soon as the thief spotted Manjunath, he fled the premises and rushed to a waiting scooter. Two associates were on the scooter with the engine running, poised for a quick getaway. When Manjunath attempted to approach them, the trio sped away, evading capture.
Stolen Items and Estimated Value
The stolen goods include two packets of silver chains weighing approximately 50 grams, three cards of gold nose pins weighing about 10 grams, and Rs 3,000 in cash. The total value of the stolen jewellery is estimated to be around Rs 1.8 lakh, marking a significant loss for the shop owner.
Police Investigation and CCTV Evidence
Police have registered a case under BNS Section 305, which pertains to theft. Authorities have obtained crucial evidence from the shop's CCTV camera, which recorded clear images of the thief and his two associates waiting nearby on the scooter. A police officer stated, "We have some clues about the three miscreants, as they had not covered their faces, and we have also obtained the scooter registration number from the CCTV footage."
This incident highlights the audacity of criminals operating in daylight and underscores the importance of security measures for small businesses. The investigation is ongoing, with police leveraging the CCTV footage to track down the suspects.
