Woman Arrested for Murder After Allegedly Setting Boyfriend on Fire in Bengaluru
In a shocking and tragic incident in northwest Bengaluru, a 27-year-old woman has been arrested on murder charges after allegedly tying up her boyfriend, dousing him with an inflammable liquid, and setting him on fire at her residence on Tuesday afternoon. The victim, identified as Kiran, also 27, died on the spot from severe burns.
Background of the Relationship
According to police investigations, both Prema (the accused) and Kiran (the victim) were colleagues at a mobile service provider store in Rajajinagar. They had reportedly been in a relationship for approximately two years. Authorities suspect that resentment may have been a motive, as Kiran had previously turned down Prema's marriage proposal.
Details of the Fatal Incident
Police reports indicate that Prema invited Kiran to her home in Anjanagar, within the Byadarahalli police station limits, on Tuesday morning after her mother and brother had left for work. Kiran, who had originally planned to visit Nelamangala, went to meet her instead.
Prema allegedly offered Kiran a "surprise" and promised him "a good time." She then blindfolded him and tied his hands and legs with a rope. When Kiran questioned her actions, she reportedly reassured him that this was "part of an act."
Minutes later, in a horrifying turn of events, Prema allegedly poured an inflammable liquid—believed to be kerosene or petrol—on Kiran and set him ablaze. Despite struggling to free himself, Kiran succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
Discovery and Initial Investigation
The crime came to light when Prema's neighbors heard Kiran's screams and noticed thick smoke emanating from the residence. They immediately alerted emergency services. Fire and emergency personnel rushed to the spot, and police were called to investigate.
