Police Raid at Bettiah GMCH Nets Two Smugglers with 138kg of Marijuana

In a significant operation on Saturday night, police in Bettiah conducted a raid at the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). The raid led to the arrest of two smugglers and the seizure of a massive 138 kilograms of marijuana. Authorities also confiscated a car used in the crime, which was parked on the hospital campus.

Details of the Police Operation

Bettiah Sadar SDPO Vivek Deep provided details on Sunday. He explained that police received specific intelligence about a large drug shipment being transported by car on Saturday night. Acting swiftly, a special police team was formed to investigate the tip.

The team located a suspicious car parked on the GMCH campus. Officers questioned two individuals sitting inside the vehicle. During a thorough search, they discovered the substantial cache of ganja, commonly known as marijuana.

Estimated Value and Arrested Individuals

The seized marijuana has an estimated market value of approximately Rs10 lakh in international markets. This highlights the scale of the smuggling attempt. The arrested smugglers have been identified as Nehal and Jaswant. Both men are residents of the Kumarbagh police station area in West Champaran district.

Smugglers' Plan and Police Investigation

According to police statements, the two men had transported the drug consignment to Bettiah. Their intention was to supply the marijuana to another smuggler in the area. However, police intervention prevented the delivery from taking place.

The smugglers reportedly chose the GMCH campus as their meeting point because they considered it a safe location. The hospital grounds typically have many vehicles parked, allowing their car to blend in without attracting attention.

SDPO Vivek Deep confirmed that a formal case has been registered against the accused. Police are now conducting further investigations to uncover other individuals involved in the smuggling network. The operation demonstrates ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region.
