Bhopal: Notorious Criminal Nabbed at Wedding Function for Elaborate Honey-Trap Extortion Scheme

In a dramatic turn of events, the Bhopal police have arrested notorious criminal Akash, also known as Bhura Haddi, along with two members of his gang. The arrests were made for allegedly hatching a conspiracy to honey-trap, blackmail, and extort a local priest. The motive behind this criminal plot was shockingly to arrange money for Akash's own impending marriage.

Arrest During Marriage Function and Subsequent Developments

Akash alias Bhura Haddi was apprehended by law enforcement officials during his marriage function on Tuesday night. This arrest came after a detailed investigation into the extortion case. Following the arrest, Akash's fiancée created a scene by threatening to die by suicide upon learning of his detention. She met with senior police officials on Wednesday and even appeared before the court in a desperate attempt to secure his release for the marriage ceremony. However, considering the seriousness of the allegations, the court denied her plea and sent Akash to jail.

Details of the Honey-Trap and Extortion Incident

According to police reports, a 25-year-old priest filed a formal complaint detailing the harrowing ordeal. The priest stated that he was acquainted with Akash Upadhyay, who also worked as a priest. Two days prior to the incident, Akash invited the victim to his rented room in the Lalghati area of Bhopal. Upon arrival, the priest found a young woman present in the room.

Akash excused himself, claiming he would return shortly, and left the room, taking the priest's scooter with him. Soon after, Bhura Haddi arrived at the location with his associates. They immediately began threatening the priest, falsely accusing him of being involved in an illicit act with the woman. The gang members warned that they would implicate him in a rape case if he did not comply with their demands.

Assault, Abduction, and Financial Extortion

The accused not only assaulted the priest but also abducted him, confining him to a flat in the Bajpai Nagar Multi area. Under immense pressure and fear, the priest was forced to call his brother and instruct him to transfer Rs 50,000 to Akash's bank account. The gang released the priest only after confirming the receipt of the extorted money.

However, the threats did not end there. The accused left the priest with a chilling warning: he must arrange another Rs 8 lakh, or else they would file a rape case against him, using the honey-trap scenario as leverage.

Police Investigation and Additional Accused

During the investigation, police uncovered that Akash used his girlfriend as bait in this elaborate blackmail scheme. As a direct result of her involvement in the conspiracy, she has also been named as an accused in the case. This highlights the premeditated nature of the crime, where personal relationships were exploited for financial gain through intimidation and false allegations.

The Bhopal police have emphasized the seriousness of the matter, noting that such crimes not only cause financial harm but also severe psychological trauma to the victims. The arrest during the marriage function underscores the audacity of the criminals, who planned to use illicitly obtained funds for their personal celebrations.
