Bhopal Woman Knifed by Ex-Live-In Partner, Sister Hurt While Saving Her
A 19-year-old woman was allegedly attacked with a knife by her former live-in partner in Shankar Nagar, under Chhola Mandir police station limits, on Tuesday evening. Her 23-year-old elder sister was also injured while trying to save her.
Police identified the accused as Akshay Chandel, a resident of Preet Nagar. He allegedly attacked the teenager with the intention to kill following a long-standing dispute between them. The woman sustained serious injuries to her neck, face, back, and hands, while her elder sister suffered a deep cut on her cheek during the assault.
Incident Details
According to police, the sisters were returning home around 4 pm when the accused intercepted them in Shankar Nagar and started arguing over an old issue. As the argument escalated, Akshay allegedly pulled out a knife and repeatedly attacked the younger sister. When the elder sister intervened to protect her, the accused allegedly attempted to stab her in the neck. As she bowed, he slashed her on the left cheek. Hearing their screams, local residents rushed to the spot, prompting the accused to flee. Before escaping, he allegedly threatened to kill the woman.
Background of the Case
Police said the accused Akshay had previously been in a live-in relationship with the 19-year-old woman. Following a fallout, the woman left him and returned to her family in 2025. Police suspect the accused was nursing a grudge since then.
Legal Action
Based on a complaint lodged by the elder sister, Chhola police registered a case against the accused under charges related to attempt to commit culpable homicide and assault. Efforts are underway to trace and arrest him.
