Lawrence Bishnoi Gang Marks Presence in Madhya Pradesh with Khargone Shooting
In a significant development, the notorious Lawrence Bishnoi gang has officially established its presence in Madhya Pradesh, following a targeted shooting incident in Khargone's Bheelgaon area. The group publicly claimed responsibility for the attack through social media posts, asserting that the victim was a middleman involved in exploiting local farmers through fraudulent documentation schemes.
Strategic Expansion into Arms Trade Hub
This move into Madhya Pradesh is seen as a strategic maneuver by the Bishnoi syndicate to gain control over the illegal arms trade that supplies weapons to Delhi and other parts of north India. Khargone district is widely recognized as the primary manufacturing hub for 7.65mm semi-automatic pistols, which constitute nearly 80% of firearms recovered in criminal investigations across Delhi. Law enforcement agencies in the capital, including the crime branch and special cell, have been placed on high alert, closely monitoring these developments as the gang employs what sources describe as a "Robinhood ploy" to manipulate local sentiments.
Social Media Warning and Broader Threats
In a detailed social media post, gang members Hari Boxer and Aarzoo Bishnoi explicitly claimed responsibility for the firing at Dilip's residence in Bhilgav, Khargone. The message warned: "This person has exploited our farmer brothers, creating fake IDs in their names and looting money. This is a warning to you — improve while you still have time. Next time, the bullet will hit you or someone close to you. Consider this our first and last warning." The post further indicated that several other individuals in Madhya Pradesh are on the gang's radar, with threats of repercussions if they do not comply.
Alliances with Local Crime Networks
Investigators reveal that the Bishnoi gang's entry into Madhya Pradesh was facilitated through alliances with local criminal groups, most notably the Durlabh Kashyap gang. Originally from Ujjain, Kashyap began his criminal career at age 18, gaining notoriety through threatening social media posts and forming a gang distinguished by members wearing kohl, black kurtas, and scarves. After Kashyap was killed by the rival Shehnawaj gang in 2018, his group faced a leadership vacuum. Lawrence Bishnoi reportedly stepped in, providing leadership and logistical support to counter rivals, in exchange for local intelligence and "ground-holding" capabilities in the sensitive Khargone region.
Expanding Network Across Multiple States
The Bishnoi gang has a history of forging alliances with local criminal outfits across various states, a strategy that has become its unique selling proposition. Key partnerships include:
- The Anandpal gang and Rohit Godara in Rajasthan
- Sandeep Jathedi and Kala Rana in Haryana
- The Gogi gang in Delhi
- The Aman Sahu/Mayank Singh gang in Jharkhand
- Multiple gangs in Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar
In Bihar, recent arrests of Mahakal gang members for weapon trafficking have exposed links to Lawrence's group, with Patna Police seizing rifles, revolvers, cartridges, and cash last August. The gang has also been known to use platforms like Instagram reels to peddle weapons, showcasing their adaptation to digital methods.
Operational Modules and Future Implications
Lawrence Bishnoi maintains small operational modules in areas such as Indore, with aides like Bhupendra Rawat from Rajasthan, who was arrested last year after meeting Lawrence in Faridkot Jail. As the gang expands its operations into Madhya Pradesh, these splinter members are likely to be deployed to strengthen its foothold. The development underscores a growing nexus between organized crime groups, posing significant challenges for law enforcement agencies tasked with curbing illegal arms trafficking and maintaining public safety in the region.
