Body Exhumed from Kerala Church Cemetery for Autopsy After Family Suspicions

A body was exhumed from the vault of a church cemetery in Kerala, and an autopsy was conducted after the deceased man's daughter-in-law raised serious suspicions over the circumstances of his death. The autopsy was performed on Tuesday in the presence of the Chengannur tahsildar, police surgeons, and the Chengannur Station House Officer.

Background of the Case

Yesudasan M, aged 74, died on March 20. Initially, no autopsy was conducted before his burial at St Mary's and St George Orthodox Church in Puliyoor, near Chengannur in Alappuzha district. The decision to exhume the body came after his daughter-in-law, Leena Bince, approached both the police and the revenue divisional officer with her concerns.

Bince expressed doubts about the role of the home nurse who cared for Yesudasan, as well as his brother. She highlighted that Yesudasan was not bedridden and was in good health prior to his death. Additionally, she noted that he was financially well-off with a substantial bank balance.

Allegations of Property Transfer and Irregularities

Bince alleged that all of Yesudasan's properties were transferred to his brother approximately three months before his death. She further claimed that suspicious transactions occurred in his bank account just two days before he passed away. "I realized something was wrong when my father-in-law's brother asked us to leave our house after the death," Bince stated. "He told us that the house and all other properties were transferred in his name."

The home nurse reportedly informed the family that all of Yesudasan's important documents, including property deeds, bank details, and ATM cards, had gone missing. Bince also mentioned that she had transferred a significant amount of money for her father-in-law's medical and daily needs until 2023.

Evidence Submitted to Police

Bince provided police with CCTV footage that captures a conversation between Yesudasan's brother and the home nurse. In the visuals, the brother is heard asking the nurse whether she had given cake to Yesudasan, to which the nurse replies that he was lying unconscious after consuming it. This footage dates back several months, adding to the suspicions surrounding the case.

Family Details and Current Status

Yesudasan's daughter resides in the UK, while Bince's husband passed away in 2017. Bince lives in Canada with her children. Yesudasan's wife died earlier in 2024, leaving the family dynamics complex. Police are now awaiting the results of the autopsy to determine the next steps in their investigation. The case has drawn attention due to the serious allegations of foul play and property disputes, highlighting the need for a thorough probe into the circumstances of Yesudasan's death.
