In a shocking case that has gripped Bokaro, the mutilated body of a contractual employee of Bokaro Steel Plant (BSL), who was kidnapped last week, was recovered on Tuesday. The police have arrested six men for his alleged murder, including one with a long criminal history.
Gruesome Discovery in Neighbouring District
The victim, identified as Jayant Singh, a resident of Sector-8 in Bokaro, was found in Jalebiya Valley under the Pirtaad police station area of neighbouring Giridih district. The recovery was made on Tuesday following an intensive investigation.
The body bore horrifying injuries, including multiple cuts and marks. In a particularly brutal detail, his eyes had been gouged out, indicating extreme cruelty inflicted upon him.
Police Crack Case, Arrest Six Accused
Bokaro Senior Superintendent of Police Harvinder Singh detailed the investigation. Jayant's wife, Amrita, had filed a First Information Report (FIR) at the Harla police station after his abduction. A special investigation team was formed, which used circumstantial evidence, technical surveillance, and interrogation to trace the body to Giridih.
The police subsequently arrested six individuals. They have been identified as Binod Kumar, Manoj Kumar, Sanjay Kumar, Anand Kumar, Varun Kumar, and Sanjay Singh. All are residents of different localities within Bokaro district.
During the arrests, the police seized a car, sticks, and mobile phones from the accused. SSP Singh revealed that Binod Kumar, the alleged main accused, has 19 criminal cases already registered against him.
Motive and Public Outrage
According to the police, the murder stemmed from a personal argument. Jayant Singh had a dispute with Binod Kumar. Following this, Binod allegedly sent his associates, who brought Jayant to his office in Sector 6. There, they forced him to consume alcohol before taking him to a nearby playground, where they beat him with sticks, leading to his death.
As news of the gruesome murder and the arrests spread, angry locals descended on National Highway-23 at Ukrid Moad and Naya Moad. The furious mob blocked the crucial road for several hours, disrupting traffic. Their demands were severe: capital punishment for the accused and the demolition of Binod Kumar's Sector 6 office.
The protest turned volatile when one individual attempted self-immolation but was swiftly prevented by the alert police personnel present at the scene.
The case highlights serious law and order concerns in the industrial city, with the involvement of a repeat offender raising questions. The police have assured a thorough investigation and prosecution.
