Bokaro Police Suspends Three Officers Over Injured Man Denied Hospital

Bokaro: Three officers posted at Chira Chas police station in Bokaro district were suspended on Tuesday after a purported video showed them keeping an injured man in custody instead of taking him to a hospital for treatment.

Officers Suspended After Preliminary Inquiry

Bokaro Superintendent of Police Nathu Singh Meena suspended Pushp Raj Kumar, officer-in-charge of Chira Chas police station, sub-inspector Rajesh Kumar, and assistant sub-inspector Sanjay Kumar Mandal. The suspension followed a preliminary inquiry initiated on the basis of the viral video.

Background of the Incident

According to SP Meena, Harsh Pandey (19) and Divyanshu Mishra (19), who had been accused of assaulting the injured man Arif Ansari, were arrested and sent to jail on Wednesday. Ansari, 25, was admitted to Bokaro Sadar Hospital for treatment.

Ansari, a resident of New Pindragaria in Bhawani Pur, had allegedly assaulted Pandey and Mishra outside a gym in the area with several others on May 1 following an altercation. The duo then registered an FIR against Ansari and others on the same day.

The Attack and Police Response

On May 4, Ansari was allegedly attacked by Pandey and his associates near a pond in Solagidih, leaving him critically injured. After reaching the spot, police allegedly brought him to the station and placed him in the lock-up instead of shifting him to a hospital.

The matter came to light after Ansari’s family recorded a video at the station on May 5. The inquiry cited failure to prioritise treatment, poor supervision, and lack of discipline as reasons for the suspension.
