Bouncer Shoots Two Sisters-in-Law in Raipur Dispute

A late-night domestic dispute in Raipur escalated into a double murder when a bouncer walked into his in-laws' house in Mowa market and allegedly shot dead his two sisters-in-law following an argument with his wife.

Incident Details

The accused, identified as Jitendra Verma, a bouncer by profession, entered his in-laws' residence carrying a licensed pistol and opened fire. The victims were Geetanjali (26), who died on the spot, and Durgeshwari (24), who was shot in the back and succumbed to her injuries during treatment on Wednesday morning.

After the killings, Verma stepped out onto the road and allegedly fired in the air before turning himself in at the police station.

Motive and Sequence

According to Raipur Deputy Commissioner of Police Mayank Gurjar, the killings were a fallout of ongoing marital discord. On Tuesday, after an argument, Verma's wife left for her parental home with their child. Unable to contact her by phone, Verma went to the house in an inebriated state, insisting on meeting the child.

When Geetanjali and Durgeshwari stepped out to reason with him and asked him to return later, the situation escalated. Enraged, Verma allegedly pulled out his pistol and opened fire. A bullet struck Geetanjali on the forehead, while another hit Durgeshwari in the back, leaving her critically injured.

The gunshots alarmed the entire neighbourhood. Residents reported hearing multiple rounds being fired and alerted the police.

Police Response

A police team reached the scene to find the two women lying in a pool of blood inside the house. Used cartridges were recovered, indicating multiple shots had been fired. The police took Verma into custody and seized the licensed firearm used in the crime.

During initial questioning, Verma confessed to the shooting, attributing the attack to a family dispute. However, investigators said the exact sequence of events and the extent of the altercation were still being verified.

The DCP said that a case was registered, adding, "The accused has been arrested and the weapon seized. We are examining all aspects of the case, including the circumstances that led to the firing."

Investigators will question family members and neighbours to piece together the full sequence of events and establish the motive before filing charges.
