Canada-Wide Manhunt Launched for Surrey Shooting Suspect in Extortion Case
Authorities have escalated a manhunt across Canada for a 24-year-old man accused of involvement in two extortion-linked shootings in Surrey, British Columbia. Jagdeep Singh is now the subject of a nationwide arrest warrant issued by police, following incidents that targeted a residence on 32 Avenue in Surrey.
Details of the Shootings and Charges
The two shootings occurred just five days apart in November of last year, with no injuries reported in either event. Jagdeep Singh faces serious charges, including one count of unlawfully discharging a firearm and one count of extortion. He is one of three foreign nationals implicated in this case.
The other two individuals, 22-year-old Avtar Singh and 28-year-old Sandeep Singh, are currently in custody and face identical charges. While his co-accused remain behind bars, Jagdeep Singh's whereabouts are unknown, prompting the urgent police response.
Broader Investigation and Immigration Concerns
In addition to the criminal charges, Jagdeep Singh is wanted by the Canada Border Services Agency on an immigration warrant, adding another layer to the legal proceedings. The case has been highlighted by British Columbia's provincial extortion task force, which was established in response to a significant increase in extortion incidents.
Officials note that the recent surge in extortion-related violence has predominantly affected members of the South Asian community and business owners in the Lower Mainland region. The Surrey Police Service has reported opening more than 50 separate extortion investigations since the beginning of the year, underscoring the scale of the issue.
Previous Arrest and Firearm Evidence
In a related development, Parkland RCMP in Alberta disclosed that Jagdeep Singh was previously arrested on November 17, 2025, while traveling through Red Deer, Alberta. He was later released pending further investigation. During his arrest, officers seized a firearm, which was sent for testing at the Provincial Firearms Lab.
Testing results revealed that the firearm was linked to seven other shootings across the country, unrelated to the Surrey events. Police stated that continued investigation uncovered key evidence connecting the suspect to extortions targeting the South Asian community and additional shootings in Parkland County.
Community Impact and Police Response
The extortion task force's involvement emphasizes the serious nature of these crimes and their impact on vulnerable communities. Authorities are urging the public to come forward with any information that could assist in locating Jagdeep Singh. The manhunt continues as police work to address the broader pattern of extortion and violence in the region.
