The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested three individuals for allegedly duping a retired government employee of Rs 2.07 crore through a 'digital arrest' fraud. The arrests were made after searches conducted in multiple locations.

The agency arrested Bibekananda Dixit and Jayant Kumar Acharya from Balasore, Odisha, and Kanhaiya Lal from Nagaur, Rajasthan. The arrests followed searches at premises linked to the accused, where evidence related to the fraud was recovered.
Modus Operandi
The fraudsters allegedly posed as law enforcement officials and contacted the victim, a retired government employee, threatening him with 'digital arrest' unless he paid a sum to avoid legal action. The victim, fearing consequences, transferred Rs 2.07 crore to accounts controlled by the accused.

The CBI registered a case based on a complaint and launched an investigation. During searches, the agency seized digital devices, bank documents, and other incriminating materials. The accused are being questioned to unravel the entire network involved in the scam.
