BATHINDA: Raghav Goyal, a leader of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) from Malout town in Punjab's Muktsar district, was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in a Rs 20 lakh bribery case. The arrest took place late Monday night at a five-star hotel in Chandigarh.
Background of the Arrest
Raghav Goyal was reportedly in Chandigarh with his father, Vikas Goyal, when a CBI team arrived at their residence in Malout around 10 pm on Monday. The team conducted searches for nearly three hours before leaving around 1 am. It is believed that Raghav Goyal acted as a middleman in a bribery case involving a reader to a senior Punjab Police official. The action is reportedly linked to a raid conducted at the Punjab Vigilance Bureau headquarters in Mohali.
No Official Statement Yet
As of the time of filing this report, no official statement had been issued by the authorities. Some BJP workers gathered outside the Goyal residence during the raid, but they claimed to have no information about the CBI action.
Seizures and Family Background
The CBI team is learned to have seized documents and cash from the premises. According to sources, Raghav Goyal's family is associated with a retired IPS officer from the Punjab cadre. The family is involved in civil works contracting, including drain-cleaning projects.
Political Links
It is also learned that Raghav had links with senior BJP leaders in Punjab and Delhi, and frequently posted photographs with them on social media. The arrest has raised questions about the extent of corruption within political circles.
