CBI Intensifies Investigation into NEET Student's Death in Patna
In a significant development in the ongoing probe into the death of a NEET student in Patna, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) summoned and interrogated two key individuals on Saturday. The maternal uncle of the deceased student and the Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of a private hospital appeared at the CBI office in Patna, responding to official summons issued by the investigative agency.
Detailed Interrogation Sessions Conducted
According to reliable sources, the interrogation process began around 10:30 AM. The girl's maternal uncle faced approximately 25 questions from CBI officers during a session that lasted about one hour. Simultaneously, Dr. Satish, the CMD of Prabhat Memorial Hospital, was questioned for approximately half an hour. These interrogations mark a crucial phase in the investigation that has been ongoing for several weeks.
The tragic case involves a NEET student who was found unconscious at a hostel in the state capital on January 6. Despite medical treatment, she succumbed to her condition and passed away on January 11. The CBI officially took over the investigation on February 12, but concrete results have remained elusive, raising concerns about the progress of the case.
Legal Proceedings and Allegations of Bias
Meanwhile, the NEET student's legal representative, S.K. Pandey, has taken formal steps by filing a complaint and compensation application in the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) court. The next hearing for this case is scheduled for March 23, adding another layer to the complex legal proceedings.
Speaking to reporters, Pandey made serious allegations regarding the investigation's conduct. "The case is not being investigated impartially," he stated emphatically. "In the name of investigation, the girl's family is being harassed. Pressure is being put on her family to accept that it was a suicide case." Pandey vowed that the fight for justice and truth would continue relentlessly until a satisfactory resolution is achieved.
Change in Investigation Leadership and Family Protests
Pandey also commented on the recent change in the CBI's investigating officer, noting that Deputy Superintendent of Police Vibha Kumari assumed the role on March 16. However, he expressed skepticism about the new direction, suggesting that "whitewashing is being done in the name of probe." Despite this, he maintained hope that the new investigating officer would steer the investigation in the right direction.
The CBI team, led by DSP Vibha Kumari, visited the student's family home in Jehanabad on March 18. This visit sparked strong protests from family members and local villagers, who expressed frustration with the repeated questioning. They alleged that the CBI had already interrogated them three to four times without yielding any tangible results. During the latest questioning session, the emotional strain became physically evident when the student's mother's health deteriorated, causing her to faint.
Broader Context and Ongoing Developments
The case has drawn significant attention due to its connection to the highly competitive NEET examinations and the sensitive nature of the allegations. The CBI's involvement was expected to bring clarity and justice, but the prolonged investigation and allegations of bias have complicated matters. The agency now faces the dual challenge of conducting a thorough investigation while addressing concerns about procedural fairness and family welfare.
As the investigation continues, all eyes remain on the CBI's next moves. The combination of legal filings, family protests, and changing investigation leadership creates a complex scenario that requires careful navigation. The outcome of this case could have broader implications for how similar investigations are conducted in the future, particularly those involving vulnerable individuals and high-stakes educational contexts.
