Tragic Suicide of Central Railway Loco Pilot at Nagpur Hospital
In a distressing incident, a Central Railway (CR) loco pilot from Tadali in Chandrapur district died by suicide at the railway hospital in Nagpur on Friday. The deceased, identified as Sudhakar Chunarkar, aged 59, had been admitted to the hospital just a day earlier, on Thursday.
Details of the Incident
According to police reports, Chunarkar's body was discovered hanging from a towel in the bathroom of private ward number 6. The tragic event unfolded between 2 pm and 4 pm, while one of his relatives was waiting outside the ward. When Chunarkar did not emerge from the bathroom for an extended period, the relative grew suspicious and forced open the door, only to find him deceased.
No suicide note was found at the scene, leading authorities to register the case as an accidental death. The Sadar police have taken charge of the investigation, with forensic science teams arriving promptly to examine the location.
Background and Hospitalization
Sources reveal that Chunarkar had suffered a serious accident on March 20, when he fell from the first floor of his building. This fall resulted in fractures in both of his legs. Initially, he received medical treatment in Chandrapur before being transferred to the Nagpur Railway Hospital for further care.
On the day of the incident, his wife had traveled to their native place following the death of a relative, leaving him under the watch of other family members. This absence may have contributed to the circumstances surrounding his untimely death.
Official Response and Inquiries
Upon discovery of the body, hospital authorities immediately alerted the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and Government Railway Police (GRP). City police were also notified, ensuring a coordinated response to the situation.
In addition to the police investigation, Central Railway has initiated a departmental inquiry to delve into the matter further. This internal probe aims to uncover any underlying issues or lapses that might have led to this tragic outcome.
