Chakan Police Launch Manhunt for Four Suspects in Violent Truck Robbery
The Chakan police in Pune have initiated a comprehensive search operation to locate four individuals involved in a violent assault and robbery targeting a truck driver. The incident, which unfolded in the Chakan MIDC area on Monday, has prompted authorities to intensify their investigative efforts following a formal complaint lodged by the victim on Tuesday.
Details of the Assault and Robbery
According to police reports, the victim, a 25-year-old truck driver hailing from Beed district, was en route to Talegaon Dabhade to deliver a consignment of ash transported from Parli Vaijnath in Beed. Upon reaching Chakan, his journey was abruptly interrupted when two men on a motorcycle blocked his path. Simultaneously, two additional accomplices arrived at the scene in a car, escalating the confrontation.
The assailants forcibly removed the driver from his vehicle under the false pretext that his truck had collided with their car. This deceptive allegation served as a prelude to a physical assault, during which the four men subjected the driver to a severe beating. They further compounded the trauma by issuing death threats, coercing him to follow their vehicles to an isolated location near a petrol pump.
Systematic Theft and Intimidation
At the petrol pump, the perpetrators executed a calculated robbery. They confiscated the truck's keys, removed its batteries, and stole Rs 5,000 in cash from the driver. Before fleeing the scene, the accused issued a stern warning, threatening the victim against disclosing any details of the incident to authorities or anyone else.
Despite the intimidation, the driver mustered the courage to approach the Chakan police station the following day. Officers have since registered a formal case of robbery and are actively pursuing all investigative leads. An officer involved in the case emphasized that the investigation is ongoing, with efforts focused on identifying and apprehending the suspects based on the victim's account and available evidence.
Police Response and Community Impact
This incident highlights concerns regarding safety in industrial areas like Chakan MIDC, where such criminal activities can disrupt logistics and transport operations. The Chakan police have assured the public of their commitment to resolving the case swiftly and enhancing security measures to prevent similar occurrences. The victim's prompt reporting has been crucial in enabling law enforcement to take immediate action, underscoring the importance of community cooperation in combating crime.
