Chandigarh MC Dismisses 2, Suspends 1 After Viral Video

The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation (MC) has taken swift disciplinary action against three employees after a video showing two of them receiving massages during duty hours at the Raipur Kalan gaushala went viral on social media. The video also captured a third employee lying on a table inside the facility.

Immediate Dismissal and Suspension

Sanitary Inspector Ishu Singla and Multi-Tasking Worker Gaurav were dismissed with immediate effect, while regular Sanitary Jamadar Sucha Singh has been placed under suspension. The suspension order for Sucha Singh was issued by MC Commissioner Amit Kumar, citing that he was seen lying on a table inside the gaushala at Makhan Majra during official duty hours.

Disciplinary Proceedings Initiated

Following the incident, the Municipal Corporation's Medical Officer of Health (MOH) ordered disciplinary proceedings. The civic body also issued a written notice to the outsourcing agency, directing it to terminate the services of the two outsourced employees with immediate effect. The order stated that the employees' acts are unbecoming of public functionaries and have brought disrepute to the Municipal Corporation.

Previous Controversy at Raipur Kalan Gaushala

The gaushala at Raipur Kalan had previously been embroiled in controversy a few months ago when a large number of dead cow carcasses were discovered there. At that time, the Municipal Corporation had initiated disciplinary action, including suspensions, against some employees. The latest incident has further tarnished the reputation of the facility, prompting strict measures from the MC to address employee misconduct and restore public trust.

Impact and Reactions

The viral video has sparked outrage among citizens and raised questions about the conduct of public servants during duty hours. The MC's decisive action aims to send a strong message against dereliction of duty and ensure accountability within the municipal workforce. The dismissed and suspended employees will face further investigation as part of the ongoing disciplinary proceedings.
