Chandigarh Realtor Brutally Murdered in Public Parking Lot

Less than twenty-four hours after gunshots echoed inside Panjab University, Chandigarh was rocked by another brazen act of violence. On Wednesday around noon, a realtor named Chamanpreet Singh, also known as Chini Kubaheri, was ruthlessly gunned down in the bustling heart of the city.

Murder in Full Public View

The attack occurred in Sector 9, a popular area teeming with offices, restaurants, and fitness centers. Hundreds of commuters were traveling along Madhya Marg and numerous people were present nearby when a gunman approached Chamanpreet's black Toyota Fortuner in a parking lot. The assailant fired approximately a dozen bullets into the vehicle as the victim sat inside.

Chilling CCTV footage captured the entire incident. The twenty-second video shows Chamanpreet parking his SUV before his body suddenly convulses as bullets strike him from the passenger-side window. A man wearing a full-face motorcycle helmet and a red T-shirt is seen firing relentlessly.

Mortally wounded, Chamanpreet attempted to escape through the driver's door, but the gunman circled the vehicle and shot him seven more times at point-blank range. The victim slumped over the steering wheel, and the SUV lurched forward before coming to a stop. Witnesses reported the shooter fled on a motorcycle with an accomplice.

Police Investigation and Gangster's Claim

Police from multiple stations, along with crime branch teams and forensic experts, swiftly cordoned off the area. Senior Superintendent of Police K M Priyanka personally oversaw the initial investigation. Authorities collected twelve shell casings and two intact bullets from the scene.

Gangster Lucky Patial claimed responsibility for the murder in a social media post, alleging Chamanpreet was an informant against his group and involved in another killing. However, police have not yet confirmed this claim and are investigating all angles.

The victim had recently reported an extortion demand of fifty lakh rupees from the Bambiha gang, along with death threats. Police revealed Chamanpreet was entangled in a property dispute and faced five FIRs, including one for attempted murder.

Background and Recent Crime Wave

Chamanpreet Singh, a thirty-one-year-old resident of Kubaheri in Mullanpur, was pronounced dead on arrival at PGI hospital after friends transported him in his blood-splattered SUV. Doctors confirmed he sustained ten to eleven bullet wounds to his chest and abdomen.

This murder represents the fourth shooting incident in Chandigarh within just three months this year. It follows the December 2025 killing of Inderpreet Singh alias Parry in Sector 26, which the Lawrence Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility for.

In January 2026, bike-borne shooters fired rounds outside a businessman's bungalow in Sector 21, leaving an extortion note. The same day, gunshots targeted a pharmacy in Sector 32, highlighting a disturbing pattern of organized crime in the region.

Police have registered a case against unknown persons and are pursuing leads, including information that the suspects fled toward Landran in Mohali. The investigation continues as authorities work to identify the gunman and his accomplice, while the city remains on edge following this series of violent incidents.
