Chennai: A tragic incident occurred in the Periamet area of Chennai on Friday morning, where a 21-year-old man allegedly killed his girlfriend by slitting her throat and later died by suicide at a lodge.
Details of the Incident
According to police, the deceased were identified as Bhavya, 21, a native of Sivaganga district, and Bharathi Perumal, son of Murugan. The couple was in a relationship and had checked into a lodge on Kumarappa Street in Periamet around 8 am on Thursday. They were allotted a room on the first floor and were scheduled to vacate by 10 am on Friday.
When the duo did not exit the room even after the check-out time, the lodge manager grew suspicious and decided to check on them. As the door was locked from inside, the manager looked through a glass panel and found the man dead. He immediately alerted the police.
Police Investigation
A police team led by inspector Srinivasan reached the spot, broke open the door, and found Bhavya lying in a pool of blood. Police observed a deep cut on her neck, along with injuries on her wrist and elbow. The bodies were sent to the Government General Hospital for postmortem. Periamet police registered a case. The respective families have been informed about the incident. Further investigation is ongoing.
