Chennai Police Intensify Search for Murder Victim's Body at Perungudi Dumpyard
The Chennai City Police have entered the second day of an intensive search operation at the Perungudi dumpyard, attempting to locate the body of Minukumari, one of the three victims in the gruesome triple murder reported earlier this week. Despite deploying substantial resources, authorities have yet to trace her remains, adding to the complexity of this tragic case.
Massive Search Operation Underway
Eight dedicated police personnel, along with a dozen conservancy workers and multiple earth-moving machines, have been working tirelessly around the clock, meticulously sifting through mountains of garbage at the designated site. The search teams have strategically cordoned off specific areas within the expansive dumpyard based on crucial statements provided by garbage truck drivers.
These drivers regularly empty solid waste collected from the Indira Nagar area in Adyar every Monday, making their insights invaluable to the investigation. The operation represents a significant effort to recover evidence that could provide closure to the grieving family and strengthen the case against the perpetrators.
Three Suspects Formally Arrested and Taken to Crime Scene
In a significant development, police have formally arrested three suspects in connection with the murders. Lalit Yadav (40), Vikas Kumar (24), and Sikander alias Satyendra (30) were taken into custody after initial detention for questioning. All three individuals are natives of Nalanda district in Bihar, highlighting the interstate dimensions of this investigation.
The arrested suspects were transported to the Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT) block in Taramani, where the horrific murders were committed on the night of January 25th. This visit was crucial for crime scene recreation, allowing investigators to piece together the sequence of events that led to the tragic deaths. Later that same day, the suspects were produced before a magistrate court in Chennai and subsequently remanded to judicial custody.
Victims' Background and Family Tragedy
Police have revealed heartbreaking details about the victims' circumstances. The deceased include Gaurav Kumar (24), his wife Minukumari (21), and their two-year-old son Birmani Kumar. The family had traveled to their native place in Bihar last year and returned to Chennai on January 21st with hopes of building a better life.
Gaurav Kumar had been working as a security guard in Sriperumbudur for two years but returned to Chennai specifically to search for employment opportunities closer to the city center. His aspiration to secure a new position as a security guard in the urban area tragically ended in violence just days after their return.
The elder brother of Gaurav Kumar, Sourav Kumar, who also works as a security guard in Anna Nagar, has taken custody of his brother's body. Meanwhile, the body of two-year-old Birmani Kumar remains at the Government Royapettah Hospital, awaiting completion of the postmortem examination procedures.
Ongoing Investigation and Community Impact
This case has sent shockwaves through the Chennai community, particularly among migrant worker populations who come to the city seeking employment opportunities. The meticulous search operation at the dumpyard demonstrates the police department's commitment to leaving no stone unturned in their investigation.
As the search continues and forensic evidence is analyzed, authorities are working to establish clear motives and complete timelines of events. The arrest of three suspects represents progress, but the recovery of Minukumari's body remains a critical objective for both investigative purposes and providing dignity to the victim's family.
