In a grim development from the national capital, the Delhi Police have made two more arrests in connection with the brutal murder of a 35-year-old woman in the Chhawla area of southwest Delhi. The arrests include the wife and brother-in-law of the main accused, who allegedly strangled his live-in partner to death five days ago.
Chilling Details of the Crime Emerge
The primary accused has been identified as Virender Singh, a transport businessman from Deenpur Extension in Najafgarh. Investigations revealed a shocking detail: Singh was already married to another woman, with whom he has two children. His live-in partner, the victim in this case, was a 35-year-old woman. According to police, Singh is accused of strangling her during a dispute.
In a bizarre and callous turn of events, after the alleged murder, Singh attempted to dispose of the body but ultimately left it inside his car. He then returned to his residence to sleep. The grisly discovery was made the following day by a vigilant neighbour who alerted the authorities.
Arrests of Family Members Point to Conspiracy
Following the discovery and Singh's initial arrest, the police probe deepened. It was found that Singh had called his wife, Poonam (31), and his brother-in-law, Chetan (21), to the spot after the incident. Poonam is a resident of Dichau Kalan village, while Chetan hails from Charkhi Dadri district in Haryana.
The precise role of these two individuals is under active investigation. Police are examining whether they were involved in a cover-up attempt or had prior knowledge of the crime. Both Poonam and Chetan have been taken into custody, marking a significant expansion of the case beyond the principal accused.
Ongoing Investigation and Legal Proceedings
The Delhi Police have registered a case and are meticulously investigating the sequence of events and the extent of involvement of all parties. The case highlights a complex web of personal relationships and alleged deception.
The body of the deceased woman was recovered from the accused's vehicle, which became a crucial piece of evidence. Authorities are now piecing together the timeline, the motive behind the murder, and the actions taken by the accused and his family members afterwards to potentially obstruct justice.
This tragic incident in Chhawla has sent shockwaves through the local community and underscores the severe challenges in cases involving domestic and intimate partner violence. The police continue their investigation to ensure all responsible faces are held accountable under the law.
