Supreme Court CJI Expresses Concern Over Rising Bar Council Election Litigation
CJI Concerned Over Bar Council Election Cases

As elections for various state Bar Councils approach, the Supreme Court of India has experienced a noticeable increase in legal cases concerning these polls. On Thursday, Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, presiding over a two-judge bench, openly expressed his frustration and concern regarding this trend.

Chief Justice's Remarks on Election Litigation

The CJI highlighted two key issues that have recently sparked significant litigation and provided insights into electoral disputes. He specifically mentioned the Maharashtra local body elections and the ongoing Bar Council elections as primary examples. Justice Surya Kant reiterated this point twice during the day as lawyers presented multiple petitions related to the Bar Council elections before the bench.

The surge in cases has drawn attention to the legal complexities surrounding electoral processes in professional bodies. This development underscores the growing challenges in managing election-related disputes within the judicial system, particularly as polling dates near.

BJP National President's Goa Visit

In a separate political development, newly appointed BJP national president Nitin Nabin is scheduled to visit Goa for a two-day stay starting Friday. During his visit, Nabin will conduct several organizational meetings and engage directly with booth-level workers, who are considered the backbone of the party's electoral and organizational structure.

His itinerary includes:

  • Meeting with the state BJP core committee members at the party office in Panaji on Friday.
  • A likely visit to the construction site of the BJP's new Goa headquarters located in the Kadamba Plateau area of Old Goa.
  • An informal lunch planned at a local BJP worker's residence on Saturday, as per party sources.

This visit aims to strengthen grassroots connections and review party infrastructure ahead of future electoral engagements. The focus on booth-level activists highlights the BJP's strategy to reinforce its organizational machinery at the local level.
