A tragic road accident in Lucknow on Monday evening claimed the life of a 15-year-old student and left three others with serious injuries. The horrific incident, involving a speeding truck, a bicycle, and a car, has sent shockwaves through the Juggaur locality.
Sequence of a Tragic Evening
The accident unfolded around 4:20 PM on Monday in the area under the jurisdiction of the BBD police station. According to eyewitness accounts, a truck was moving at a dangerously high speed when it first struck a young cyclist. The impact was so severe that the victim, identified as Shani Kannaujia, was dragged for several metres on the road.
In a panicked attempt to flee the scene, the truck driver then lost control and rammed into a car. The collision was of such force that the car crumpled under the impact. The swift action of local residents prevented the driver from escaping, as they caught and held him until police arrived.
Victims and Immediate Aftermath
Shani Kannaujia, the deceased, was a Class 10 student at a government school in Juggaur. He was returning home from school on his bicycle when the tragedy struck. All the injured, including Shani, were rushed to Lohia Hospital for emergency treatment. Unfortunately, doctors at the hospital declared the teenager dead upon arrival.
The three individuals who sustained serious injuries in the accident are:
- Rakesh, the truck driver and a resident of Barabanki.
- Sachin Yadav, 20, a law student at a private college.
- Anand Kannaujia, 21, of BBD, an engineering student at a private college.
Police Investigation and Next Steps
Police officials confirmed the details of the case and stated that the truck driver, Rakesh, is currently receiving medical care. BBD Station House Officer (SHO) Ram Singh explicitly stated that Rakesh would be taken into police custody after he is discharged from the hospital. The investigation is ongoing to determine the exact cause of the high-speed driving and to ascertain any further lapses.
This devastating incident has once again highlighted the critical issue of road safety and reckless driving in urban areas, cutting short a young life full of promise and causing trauma to multiple families.
