The Coimbatore district collectorate on Wednesday received its 35th hoax bomb threat in recent months, prompting a high alert and extensive searches by security agencies. According to an anonymous email sent to the collectorate's official address, the sender claimed that RDX explosives and poisonous gas had been planted on the premises and would be detonated during peak afternoon hours.
Security Response and Investigation
Upon receiving the threat, the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) and the K9 squad immediately cordoned off the area and conducted thorough searches. After several hours of meticulous inspection, officials confirmed that the threat was a hoax. No suspicious objects were found, and normal operations resumed at the collectorate.
Pattern of Threats
Police officers investigating the case stated that the repeated threats were likely being sent by a single individual or a small group using VPNs and encrypted email services to conceal their identity. The exact motive behind these threats has not yet been confirmed, and investigations are ongoing.
This incident marks the 35th such hoax threat received by the Coimbatore district collectorate in recent months, raising concerns about the resources expended on responding to these false alarms. Authorities are working to trace the origin of the emails and prevent future occurrences.
