Coimbatore Police Launch Major Drive Against Public Drinking

Coimbatore city police took decisive action on Saturday, registering cases against 36 individuals for consuming alcohol in public spaces. Officers arrested all those caught during the coordinated operation.

Police Crackdown on Public Nuisance

A senior police officer explained their ongoing efforts to reduce public drinking and smoking. The department is also targeting the illegal sale of banned tobacco products throughout Coimbatore.

"We have been implementing measures to curtail these activities," the officer stated. "Following instructions from higher officials, police personnel from various stations conducted thorough searches within their limits."

Saturday's Raid Details

The special drive resulted in 36 men being caught red-handed. They were consuming alcohol openly in public areas across different neighborhoods.

Police stations filed cases under Section 4 of the Tamil Nadu Prohibition Act:

  • Podanur and Peelamedu police registered four cases each
  • Kattoor, Race Course, Saravanampatti, Singanallur and Thudiyalur police registered two cases each
  • Rathinapuri police booked one case

The operation demonstrates police commitment to maintaining public order and enforcing prohibition laws in the city.
