A devastating road accident on the Agra-Mumbai national highway in Barwani district has resulted in the death of a couple and left two children injured. The tragic incident occurred on Saturday night at Bijasan Ghat, a location on the border of Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra.
Sequence of a Fatal Collision
According to police officer Rohit Patidar, in-charge of the Bijasan police outpost, the victims were identified as 40-year-old Sayaram Piplode and his wife, Rumri Bai. They were travelling on a motorcycle with their son, Rohit, and their niece, Sakshi. The family was en route from Shirpur in Maharashtra to Jhakar near Niwali in Barwani district.
The catastrophe unfolded when a trailer coming from the opposite direction experienced a complete brake failure. The out-of-control vehicle suddenly veered onto the wrong side of the road, rammed into the highway divider, and overturned. In a horrific turn, the trailer fell onto the motorcycle in the adjacent lane.
Immediate Aftermath and Police Investigation
The impact of the collision was severe enough to split the trailer's cabin and rear body into two parts and threw the family onto the road. Sayaram and Rumri Bai sustained critical injuries and were rushed to the Civil Hospital, where doctors declared them dead upon arrival.
Their son, Rohit, who was critically injured, was referred to the district hospital in Barwani for advanced care. The young niece, Sakshi, fortunately received only minor injuries. Police confirmed that the deceased couple were residents of Tharapani village under the Pansemal police station area and worked in Shirpur, Maharashtra.
In a concerning development, the trailer driver fled the accident spot immediately after the crash. The local police have registered a case and launched a search operation to apprehend the absconding driver.
A Grim Reminder of Highway Safety
This tragic event on the busy Agra-Mumbai national highway underscores the persistent dangers on Indian roads, especially involving heavy vehicles. The failure of the trailer's braking system and the driver's subsequent escape highlight critical issues in vehicle maintenance and accountability. The incident has left a family shattered and a community in mourning, raising urgent questions about road safety enforcement in ghat sections and national highways.
