Tragic End to Pilgrimage: Cousins Crushed by Truck in Nashik
A journey of faith turned into a nightmare near Trimbakeshwar on Saturday afternoon. A 21-year-old man and his 20-year-old female cousin lost their lives in a horrific road accident when a truck loaded with rubble toppled onto their motorcycle. The tragic incident occurred around 3:30 pm, sending shockwaves through the local community.
Victims Identified as Buldhana Residents
The deceased have been identified as Shivam Umbarhande (21) and Bhumika Khedekar (20). Both were originally residents of Chikhli in Buldhana district but were currently staying with a relative in the Nashik Road area. According to Inspector Mahesh Kulkarni of the Trimbakeshwar police station, the young cousins had embarked on a trip to the famous Trimbakeshwar temple for 'darshan' when disaster struck.
Preliminary information suggests that the driver of the rubble-laden truck apparently lost control of his vehicle. In a devastating turn of events, the massive truck fell directly onto the two-wheeler carrying Shivam and Bhumika.
Rushed to Hospital, Declared Dead on Arrival
Bystanders and locals who witnessed the shocking accident immediately sprang into action. They rushed the severely injured cousins to the nearest medical facility, the Trimbak Rural Hospital. Despite their efforts and the swift response, both Shivam and Bhumika were declared 'brought dead' by the doctors upon arrival.
Inspector Kulkarni confirmed that the truck driver also sustained injuries in the crash. The Trimbakeshwar police have initiated an investigation and are in the process of registering a formal case regarding the incident to determine the exact cause and circumstances.
This tragic accident near the pilgrimage town highlights the persistent issue of road safety on busy routes. It has cut short two young lives, leaving families in Buldhana and Nashik in profound grief.
