Cow Smuggler Injured in Encounter After Firing at Cops

A cow smuggler was injured in an encounter with Delhi Police on Monday after he fired at the police team. The incident took place in the early hours near the Yamuna riverbank in northeast Delhi, where police had received information about a cattle smuggling operation.

Details of the Encounter

According to police officials, a team from the Crime Branch was conducting a raid when the accused, identified as 35-year-old Rizwan, opened fire at the officers. The police retaliated, injuring Rizwan in the leg. He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and is currently under police custody.

Recovery of Weapons and Cattle

During the operation, police recovered a pistol, several live cartridges, and a number of cows that were allegedly being smuggled. The cows were seized and sent to a shelter. Police have also detained two other suspects for questioning.

Rizwan has a prior criminal record, with cases related to cattle smuggling and assault registered against him at various police stations in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. The police are investigating if he was part of a larger network involved in illegal cattle trade.
