The Tamil Nadu government has firmly asserted that it will not bow down to any indirect pressure regarding its language policy. School Education Minister A Rajmohan made it clear that there is absolutely no room for compromise on the two-language policy, which is one of the founding principles of the Tamilaga Vazhvu Kazhagam (TVK).
Unwavering Commitment to Two-Language Policy
Speaking to the media, Minister Rajmohan emphasized that the state government remains steadfast in its stance. He stated that the two-language policy is non-negotiable and any attempts to exert pressure, whether direct or indirect, will be firmly resisted. The minister's remarks come amid ongoing debates over language policies in the country.
Founding Principle of TVK
The two-language policy is a cornerstone of the TVK's ideology, which prioritizes Tamil and English as the primary languages of instruction and administration. The government believes that this policy promotes linguistic harmony and ensures equal opportunities for all students.
Rajmohan further added that the Tamil Nadu government is committed to protecting the interests of its people and will not succumb to any external influences. He urged all stakeholders to respect the state's autonomy in deciding its language policy.
Rejection of Indirect Pressure
The minister's statement underscores the government's resolve to uphold its policy despite any perceived pressure from the central government or other entities. He reiterated that the state will continue to follow its own path in matters of education and language.
This development highlights the ongoing tension between state and central authorities over language policies, with Tamil Nadu taking a strong stand to preserve its linguistic identity.
