Rajasthan University VC Threatened Over Employee Loan Default

Jaipur: Police have initiated an investigation after the vice-chancellor of Rajasthan University, Alpana Kateja, lodged a complaint alleging that she received threatening calls from recovery agents in connection with an unpaid loan taken by a university employee. No FIR has been registered so far, police said Tuesday.

Police Examining Allegations

Gandhi Nagar police station SHO Bhajan Lal said the matter is being examined and police are verifying the allegations and available evidence before deciding on further action.

“The matter is under investigation, and we have not lodged any FIR in this case so far. So far it is found that the employee who had taken loan and was not paying was asked by the recovery agents on his employment. The employee told them that they worked at the University and they made a call to the VC,” the SHO said.

Employee Default Triggers Controversy

According to police, the controversy surfaced after university employee Dharam Gurjar allegedly defaulted on repayment of a loan. Investigators said the recovery agents later contacted the vice-chancellor several times, allegedly demanding payment and issuing threats.

“We have received a complaint in which the VC of Rajasthan University alleged that the recovery agents made repeated calls to the VC and issued threats. So, we are probing if the case can be of criminal intimidation,” Bhajan Lal said.

Police said the vice-chancellor alleged in her complaint that she received calls from multiple numbers on May 14 and that the callers used abusive language while threatening harm to life and property.

“We are examining the evidence to ascertain if the matter comes under criminal intimidation,” the SHO added.

Police said further legal action would depend on the findings of the ongoing investigation.
